Day trip into Ngorongoro Crater on the first day Then trek through the Ngorongoro Highlands into Lake Natron is one of the most off-the-beaten-path destinations in Northern Tanzania, you will have this area largely to yourselves. Additionally, meet Maasai people, see wild animals and magnificent landscapes, also climb Mt Ol Doinyo Lengai (Maasai Mountain of God) world’s only active carbonatite volcano active. The landscape surrounding Lake Natron is unique in the world, as are the relatively untouched Maasai villages in this area.
Pick up from your hotel in Arusha at 07:30am, drive 3hours to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for 6hrs game viewing with picnic lunch. drive to Nainokanoka Maasai village, Ngorongoro is one of the true wonders of nature and home of Rhinos, Elephants, Lions and many other species. Dinner and overnight Nainoka Noka Maasai village.
After breakfast start trekking 1 hour to Olmoti crater, view the crater and continue trekking about 3hours to Bulati Masai School. Have a lunch on the way. Dinner and overnight at Bulati Maasai school.
After breakfast, you will walk pole pole (slowly -slowly) about 5 hours up and down through the beautifully scenery, viewing the magnificent Maasai plains, and Maasai mountain of God to the rim of Empakai Crater, have a lunch at Empakai crater rim. After lunch descend into Empakai crater floor (very steep) buffalos, water buck, reed buck, and different species of birds can be seen at the close range, during the walk around the lake. Late evening ascends to the rim at Empakai Campsite for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast you will walk about 5 hours and enjoy the magnificent view of high lands. On the way you will see many small bucks like Thomson gazelle, dik-dik, and different species of birds, passing to the traditional Maasai bomas. Your guide will tell you about local Maasai culture and daily life late afternoon arrive acacia campsite for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast trekking to follow the winding paths across bars volcanic rocks, the path rounding the north western floor of Oldoinyo Lengai still active volcano Maasai Mountain of God.After 2hour of trekking, you will find our car at Mti mmoja waiting for you and drive you to worldview campsite for lunch and rest. Dinner and overnight at worldview campsite
After breakfast drive to the bottom of the Mountain and start a short walk to the Ngarasero waterfalls for swimming to the River pool and enjoy viewing deferent spices of birds and butterflies, lunch at the waterfalls.After lunch walk again to meet the vehicle and then drive to Lake Natron on the lookout for birds, especially the lesser flamingos. Lake Natron is the most important and regular breeding site for lesser flamingos in East Africa hosting up to 2 million of them during the breeding season.After sunset drive to Worldview campsite for dinner and overnight.
At 1:00am have a cup of coffee and drive to the climbing starting point, climb with your guide up to the Mt Oldonyo Lengai Summit 9442 ft / 2878m, very steep and there is rock climbing, at the top see Volcanic eruption, view the magnificent landscape of the wonderful Ngorongoro Crater, Mt Longido, Lake Natron, Maasai Bush-land, Mt Kitumbeine, Mt Kerimasi etc.Climbing the mountain requires 4-5 hours of moderate exertion to reach the summit. The ascent is quite difficult and challenging because the mountain is steep and loose and climbers are exposed to the hot sun as there is hardly any shade.The best time to climb the mountain is early in the morning, before the sun gets too hot. Once at the top you will see the strange and unique landscape of the crater. The landscape here is well worth the effort it takes to ascend. Herds of zebra and wildebeest can sometimes be seen on the trip.After sunrise descend down to the starting point, drive back to the camp for lunch,After lunch drive back to Arusha.
